About Me

A turquoise lake with snow-capped mountains under cloudy skies.

Who I am

I'm an experienced FP&A and strategic financial analyst with a focus on financial planning and analysis. I frequently work directly with senior leadership, including C-level executives and private equity ownership, to provide consolidated reporting and strategic insights into the business. I've also led several annual budgeting cycles -- both revenue and expense budgeting -- ranging from $50M to $300M in revenue while also balancing gross margin targets.

I thrive in a supportive environment where I can hit the ground running. My greatest strength has always been my curiosity — understanding 'why' is crucial to being a successful analyst and a supportive finance business partner.

Where I've Been

I have a multi-faceted background in financial planning, including modeling, forecasting analysis, reporting, and comprehensive analysis. I also specialize in consolidated reporting and commentary tailored for executive and C-level audiences. My expertise extends to revenue recognition and monthly close processes, as well as variance analysis and commentary. Additionally, I am experienced in SaaS and Professional Services business capacity reporting. I utilize data visualization tools like R, Tableau, and PowerBI to enhance my data analysis capabilities, and I employ Python for data analysis in my personal projects.

What I Do

I enjoy building models, conducting analysis, and utilizing the tools available (e.g., Tableau, PowerBI) for data visualization to narrate the story of a business and to offer strategic guidance to key stakeholders.

Some of my favorite authors include Barbara Tuchman, Ian Toll, Matt Parker, and Andy Weir. I follow Texas football, baseball, and Spurs basketball.

I also enjoy merging modeling with sports. Some of my recent personal projects include upgrading a previous model I built (and associated ETL pipeline) to evaluate and forecast player performance for my fantasy team. I was able to significantly streamline my previous approach by implementing a more robust ETL pipeline using Python and a custom local SQL database.

The data was fed into Excel using Power Query for analysis. From there, I ran calculations to identify players who fit the traits I was targeting and to account for team trends over the season. While the mathematical approach and overall methodology of my forecasting analysis haven't changed significantly over several iterations, the infrastructure around it has improved dramatically.

In the 4 years I've utilized this model strategy in my 12-man league, I've made the playoffs every year and won 1 championship.
